Ken Trimmins is a dynamic and versatile trumpet player, composer and educator. As a solo performer, he excels in both jazz (commercial) and classical genres.  He studied trumpet with a number of world-renowned artists including jazz great Bobby Shew, Willie Thomas, Vincent DiMartino and former Atlanta Symphony principle trumpeter Jim Thompson and many others.


Ken received a Bachelor of Art in Music Education degree from Valdosta State University, a Master of Music in Trumpet Performance degree from Mercer University, and is currently a second year doctoral candidate of classical trumpet at The Florida State University, Tallahassee, Florida.   He has served on the faculty of Armstrong Atlantic State University, Savannah, Georgia and is currently the instructor of trumpet at Albany State University in Albany, Georgia.  Ken recently completed a distinguished twenty-three year career with the United States Air Force Band program. There he served as the Director of Operations for nine touring ensembles and the musical director and band leader for three Air Force jazz bands.
 


Ken has performed in venues all over the world in front of millions of people and countless millions more via many forms of media. A highlight of Ken's career was when a performance at the Clearwater Jazz Holiday was captured and shown on BET Jazz in October 2000. In 2002, Ken was approached by the producers of “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno” to perform his highly unusual talent of playing two separate trumpets at the same time. On Thanksgiving night over 12 million television viewers watched in awe as Ken performed this incredible feat. In November 2003, Ken appeared on the syndicated talk show “Living It Up With Ali and Jack” and performed live in front of a studio and nation-wide audience.

Ken enjoys working with young musicians and is often asked to perform master classes and to instruct performance techniques in contemporary and classical genres.  Ken serves as a clinician, conductor, soloist and adjudicator at schools and universities all over the southeast.


In June 2004, after performing on over 40 separate professional recordings with world renowned artists, Ken produced his debut album “Smooth Moves.” This recording offered a unique blend of original “smooth jazz” compositions and traditional jazz standards. Ken even showcased his vocal ability on a stirring arrangement of “Who Can I Turn To?” The CD is easy to listen to, relaxing, and certainly lives up its name.
